Defending Kolkata in the wake of the rising incidents of crime against women in the city, superstar Shah Rukh Khan Saturday said not only Kolkata, but the whole world had issues when it came to the safety of women.

Khan, who is the state's brand ambassador, came to his "favourite" city's rescue by pointing out that safety of women is a global concern: "This is very personal. You can't pick on a city because it's easiest to blame the system...the whole country... the whole world actually has issues as far as safety of women is concerned."

The star also stressed the need to teach children to respect women.

"We can always turn around and say that it's sad...but I think the younger people... and I feel I am young...we must change the concept of how we bring up our children at home. The thing is the mentality of not telling the boys how to be gentle, and good and respectful. So I have started doing that," Khan told reporters during the promotion of his film "Chennai Express" here.

"When I talk to my son about girls, I don't talk about girlfriends. I tell him: 'Don't break a girl's heart, treat it gently and there is no way that you can look at an atrocity done on a women and if you do that you will not be forgiven by your father and mother'. So we should start from there," Khan said.

Downplaying the issue of surrogacy and his new born, SRK cleared the air by stating:" I didn't do it to promote surrogacy in the country...I did it to have a baby...I don't know how to explain that."

Directed by Rohit Shetty, "Chennai Express" is slated for an Aug 9 release. It stars Deepika Padukone as the lead actress.

SRK took Dippy for a spin in a sports car around Film City. Apparently, he's never driven one before.

So we have been talking about Shah Rukh Khan's boundless energy. And here's some more proof of the same. The other day, after he attended monster of a media session to promote his upcoming film, the star did not go back to Mannat immediately. Apparently, he whisked off his Chennai Express co-star Deepika Padukone for a ride around Film City in a sports car owned by T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar.

It all began when Shah Rukh spotted Bhushan driving into Film City in his flashy sports car. During a long animated conversation between the two of them, Shah Rukh told Bhushan that he would like to have a quick spin in his sports vehicle.

As Shah Rukh stepped behind the wheel, Deepika got into the passenger seat. A source told us, "They were gone for a good 15 minutes. Shah Rukh loved riding Bhushan's car." A few minutes later, Bhushan got into his car and drove homeward.

When contacted, Bhushan confirmed and said, "Yes, this did happen. Anything for Shah Rukh. He is a dear friend."

As for Deepika, it must be quite a challenege to keep up with her costar who is almost two decades older than her but could give her stiff competition when it comes to stamina. Right Dippy?

Car fancier than his train?

Doting father Shah Rukh Khan recently took to social networking site, Twitter to pen his thoughts about his eldest son Aryan.

"My teenage son is slowly turning into half man half mattress...", he posted.

We guess the actor is talking about his teenage son who is fast growing up and right now is neither an adult nor a child.

Shah Rukh Khan, who recently became a father for the third time, is known to be extremely protective of Aryan.

The 15-year-old is enrolled at the Seven Oaks School, situated close to Central London, which is believed to be a popular choice for celebrities.

Shah Rukh had initially revealed that he preferred to send his son abroad to study, as he wanted to keep Aryan out of the media glare.

Aryan was recently spotted at the airport on his return from London for holidays.

"5 am high. I love to pick my son from the airport. My father picked me from the bus stand. He's gone a long way or I have come a long way baby!," Shah Rukh had tweeted on July 21.

If the promotion of Chennai Express is not yet in-your-face, it is for a reason. This is the way Shah Rukh Khan intends to keep it as and even in weeks to follow, there aren't any plans to go overtly ballistic.

"There have been a few major events, launches and press conferences that have taken place for Chennai Express but beyond that it has all been under check. Shah Rukh feels that there is no point thrusting any kind of marketing or promotion down the audience's throat when the film is heating up on its own merits," informs a source, "This is the reason why there hasn't been anything extravagant around the entire campaign so far."

This is unlike Shah Rukh's last production Ra.One where more than six months had gone into promoting the film with a marketing budget that went into tens of crores.

"It was required there since the super-hero genre was being introduced to the audience. It was a conscious call back then to be very aggressive about the film so that it was known to one and all what the film was all about. It is not required for Chennai Express though since the very first promo established what it was all about," the source adds.

"Also, with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Rohit Shetty and Deepika Padukone out there, you don't need to scream from the rooftops about your product. The film is coming on Eid and with the kind of credentials involved in the film; audience is bound to step forward on his own. Yes, there is connect that is required with the youth and for that an elaborate digital campaign is on," he continues.

However, physical presence of lead actors and director in any and every other event has been done away with. No wonder, even with less than 20 days remaining for the film's release, there aren't any 'dozen odd' city tours being planned, something which is pretty much in the vogue.

"The idea is to bring the film rather peacefully than indulge in the kind of hustle-bustle which otherwise comes with the territory," an insider connected to Chennai Express adds, "There would be very few, but prominent cities, that would be visited. However, at the end of it all, it is the film which is going to make the maximum noise on its release."

Well, this move could well turn out to be not just an anti-thesis of the way other biggies promote their films but also pave the way for a much relaxed release outing.

Shah Rukh Khan names baby AbRam, says no sex test was done

SRK confirmed the birth of his surrogate baby boy for the first time
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan Tuesday confirmed for the first time the premature birth of his and his wife Gauri Khan's surrogate baby boy, who has been named AbRam. Full statement

Shah Rukh, 47, made the news official about his surrogate baby via a statement.

"Amidst all the noise that has been going around, the sweetest is the one made by our newborn baby, AbRam. He was born prematurely by several months, but has finally come home," said Shah Rukh.

"Gauri and our whole family have been dealing with his health issues for a long time now," he added.

Explaining his longstanding silence on the matter, he said: "As a family, our silence on this subject has been because of the personal nature of emotional strife that we have been going through due to his health."

The superstar, also called the baadshah of Bollywood, also put the record straight that "there was no sex determination for our child".

"The baby was born much before the speculations of 'sex determination' and other 'issues' pertaining to the same were being raised in the media by some organisations. Suffice to say his coming home puts to rest completely false and at times insensitive claims of sex determination and alleged illegalities," he added.

On his part, the actor-producer has also apologised to "all those other doctors and hospitals who had to face unwanted scrutiny and questioning by some parties", and he has thanked the doctor concerned, Jatin Shah, for his expertise and contribution to make the surrogacy successful.

"We also wish to thank all the other doctors, nurses and medical staff who have made his life possible," added Shah Rukh, who also said the entire surrogacy process is bound by "strict confidentiality".

He has appealed to all "to allow us to cherish this private moment as a family".

Shah Rukh, who began his tryst with showbiz through the small screen in 1988, married Gauri in 1991. They have two children together - son Aryan,16, and daughter Suhana, 13.

The search for Shah Rukh Khan's leading lady in "Happy New Year" has finally come to an end. The film's director Farah Khan has decided to introduce a fresh face in the upcoming venture.

Farah has finally zeroed in on a newcomer for the project, but the final decision rests with Shah Ruhk. "Yes, Farah has found the girl. But now, she is waiting for Shah Rukh's return from an award function in Macau. Once he is back, she will show him the screen tests and the auditions before he gives a green signal. But since Farah has chosen the actor, we can say that the name is almost confirmed," an insider told Hindustan Times.

The identity of the newcomer has not been revealed, but rumours are abuzz that she is a talented dancer and in her 20s. "Farah wanted a pretty girl who could act as well as dance, since the role is of a bar dancer from Bhandup. That's why it took over three months for her to find the right person," the insider said.

More than 70 girls including several prominent Bollywood actresses had auditioned for the role. "Every possible actor from the industry tried her luck but Farah was very clear about what was she looking for. Now she is eagerly waiting for Shah Rukh's response. Once he says yes, she will start polishing the actor's dancing as well as acting skills," added the insider.

Everybody was waiting with bated breath for Shah Rukh Khan to take on the mantle of the show-host at the Iifa awards. And as always, King Khan didn't disappoint. He had his audience in splits with his jokes and wisecracks. But unfortunately, that didn't last for long. While performing a dance number from his next film Chennai Express, Shah Rukh's shoulder pain became severe. His doctors had advised him not to dance but SRK was too keen to promote his film in a way only he can.

"We had asked SRK to not dance. We were okay with him anchoring the show as his health was fine overall. But he was adamant on completing the dance act and he did. Throughout the dance performance SRK couldn't move his hand," says a source.

Dancing with one hand can be a task, especially when one has recently undergone surgery.  "The dance performance begun without him with just dancers in the background as he was in excruciating pain," says an eyewitness.

In spite of the mishap, the incident is one more example of the superstar's determination and passion for his work.
