Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of bollywood who is desperate to do daring stunt sequences for Anubhav Sinha directed flick Ra.One, has been advised by doctors to resist from doing action sequences for two more months.

Sources say that Dr Ali Irani, who examined King Khan's shoulder injury on Wednesday, was of the view that Shah Rukh Khan would have to continue with his physiotherapy and theraband exercises for two more months to be able to do action sequences in his films. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan's shoulder injury has recuperated to almost ninety percent and there are indications that it would completely heal within two months, if Shah Rukh Khan could take proper care of it.

Doctors have warned Shah Rukh Khan to continue with theraband exercises even during outdoor shooting spells, as only that can strengthen his injured shoulder muscles.

Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan's sci-fi 'Ra.One' had been postponed due to his shoulder injury as the film required King Khan to perform breath taking action sequences. Sources say that Shah Rukh plays a superman in the film and so the stunt sequences were the backbone of the whole venture.

At that time Shah Rukh had started the shooting of Karan Johar's flick 'My Name Is Khan' to utilize the time, made available by the postponement of 'Ra.One', as it (Karan's flick) needed only intense emotional sequences.

This time too, history seems to be repeating itself with 'Ra.One' getting postponed for Farah Khan's upcoming flick 'Happy Birth Day', which does not require King Khan to flex his muscles. Another reason, said to have gone in favor of Farah Khan, is that Eros people were not very enthusiastic about Anubhav Sinha's film, while they were more trusting towards Farah Khan genre of filmmaking.

It may be recalled that it all had started with Sushmita Sen starrer flick 'Dulha Mil Gaya', wherein Shah Rukh was playing a cameo. While enacting a sequence in the film, Shah Rukh injured his left shoulder, and he was advised to take rest till the shoulder was fully healed.

Shah Rukh Khan had also undergone an arthroscopy surgery in February 2008 for his troubled shoulder at reputed Breach Candy hospital, and since then has been under medical supervision.

Remember, they parted on a sour note after her hasty departure from his home production Chalte Chalte six years ago?

She had already canned a portion of the film when Salman Khan reportedly landed on the sets... and, well, the rest as they say is history.

Post that scene, SRK let Ash off the hook and took Rani Mukerji as his leading lady. And, since then, many big banners including Yashraj and Dharma failed to reunite the pair that created such magic in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas.

Subsequently, though the Bollywood Badshah wasn't invited to the Ash-Abhishek wedding, King Khan and wife Gauri posed with the Bachchans for the shutterbugs at the Drona premiere last year. And more recently, at Karan Johar's birthday party on May 25, the two couples — SRK and Gauri, Ash and Abhi — spent quality time together.

In the light of this thawing of relations, comes the news of cinematographer-director Rajiv Menon (whose Kandukonden Kandukonden in Tamil had Tabu and Ash) reuniting the SRK-Ash jodi. Menon is said to have flown to London to narrate a dramatic script (with Ash in mind) to Shah Rukh, which the actor liked.

At this point of his career, SRK is looking to do films that explore his dramatic intensity as in Devdas. He has no problems working with Ash and she with him. At Karan's birthday, the Bachchans and Khans got along famously. Rajiv Menon's film is being seen as a natural progression towards mending the bridges between two of the most powerful families of Bollywood.

On Wednesday evening, physiotherapist Dr Ali Irani examined Shah Rukh and asked him not to start doing any action scenes for a couple of months.

Shah Rukh had injured his left shoulder on the sets of Dulha Mil Gaya. The 43-year-old actor had to undergo an arthroscopy surgery on his left shoulder in February 2009 at the Breach Candy Hospital.

A source said, "Shah Rukh is keen that he goes for all his shootings without bothering to look after his shoulder all the time. But he will have to wait before he goes all out and does action scenes. His shoulder is healing slowly but surely."

Dr Irani confirmed that he had examined Shah Rukh on Wednesday. "Shah Rukh has got back 90 per cent of his movement but may need another month or two to get back his strength before he is ready to do stunt scenes," said Dr Irani.

"SRK's fitness regimen to heal his shoulder includes special type of exercises with a theraband, which will help in strengthening the shoulder muscles," added Dr Irani.

Soon after his surgery, SRK had started shooting for Karan Johar's My Name is Khan, which he will complete in August. Last week, SRK returned from San Francisco after a gruelling shoot schedule of the film. He continued doing the theraband exercises even when he was there.

Buzz is, Ra.one, which will have SRK playing a superhero, has also been put on hold not only because Eros International wanted to back Farah Khan's Happy New Year before Ra.one but also because Shah Rukh will have to do some intense action sequences in the film, which he can ill afford to right now.

Mumbai: The enemy of my enemy is my friend now. It seems to be true in context with the Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

If reports are to be believed after a span of seven years both will be seen together on silver screen.

The verbal war between duo with Salman Khan has had hit the headlines in the past. Hence, it seems that the enmity with Sallu Mian helped duo to come close.

Their relationship had turned sour during the shoot of SRK's home production Chalte Chalte'. Sallu had created a ruckus on the sets and Ash had to be ousted from the movie. It didn't go down well with the world's most beautiful woman and since has not worked with Sharukh.

However the title of the movie is yet to be decided but duo are agreed work together.

Well, in the past Aish had played sister of Shah Rukh in 'Josh' and a dead beloved in 'Mohabbatein', it will be interesting to see what role she does against SRK.

It would be worth watching Bollywood's colossal stars reviving the magic with their onscreen pairing since.

Karan Johar will be going global with his movie My Name Is Khan very soon. There had been speculations abound whether Karan would be selling the world rights of the film to either Yash Raj Films or to his new business associate UTV (they have tied up for Qurbaan and Wake Up Sid). But it is now learnt that Karan is tying up with a big international distribution company for the movie. This company is none other than Fox Studios. Apparently, they have already bought Karan's My Name Is Khan for a whopping Rs 100 Crore.
Multiple Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire was a Fox product and the aggressive manner by which the studio is known to promote their films worldwide; one is sure My Name Is Khan will definitely be on everyone's lips the world over, during the time of its release. With its topical theme and world's most popular actor Shah Rukh Khan in it, we won't be surprised if the movie shatters box-office records worldwide, apart from generating critical acclaim just like Fox's Slumdog Millionaire.
However, Karan Johar states that he is still working that out! My Name Is Khan is releasing either end of January or in February. A month of shoot is still left. Karan's film is set against the 9-11 terror attacks and its impact on an Indian Muslim living in the US. It is being touted as the most awaited releases of the year. The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead after a gap of eight long years.

It's a job most Indians would die for — shadowing Shah Rukh Khan wherever he goes.

For the last two months, that's exactly what a TV crew has been doing, following the country's biggest star from South Africa to America to London to Mumbai — all for the making of a unique six-part series on the actor, to be telecast on lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living.

"It's an inner world-outer world kind of documentary," said Khan, speaking exclusively to HT. "Hopefully, the parts that people will get to see of me — at work and at other places — will shed some light on how films and film stars work and offer an insight into how I do things."

Khan said he has got to know the crew quite well ("They have been very unobtrusive").

For Discovery Travel & Living, this series will be one of the biggest global productions to come out of India and will be shown all over the world. "We haven't yet decided when we're going to telecast it or what it's going to be called," said Rahul Johri, senior vice-president and general manager – India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific. "But definitely it will be by next year."

No star has ever agreed to such scrutiny before. But in Khan's case, it probably helped that his own production company, Red Chillies, is also involved in the venture. In that sense, this is the ultimate home production.

"It made me feel special and it also provided me an opportunity to carry on a relationship with a country that is culturally close to ours,'' said SRK.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is likely to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders in the third edition of the Indian Premier League.

Ganguly led in the inaugural tournament in 2008, but was controversially replaced in 2009 by Brendon McCullum - a decision that the then coach John Buchanan made.

Ganguly met franchise owner Shahrukh Khan in England when he was there to watch the ICC World Twenty20 Championship, and they discussed the captaincy as well as the appointment of a new coach for the team for the next season of the twenty20 tournament.

According to sources, the KKR management would like to announce the decision later, sometime in the middle of August once the new coach is appointed.

Even as an official announcement is awaited, sources said that there could be a major reshuffle with former India coach Wright likely to replace John Buchanan as the Knight Riders coach, while former Australian middle-order batsman Michael Bevan will be on the coaching panel.

"Ganguly and Shah Rukh Khan had a discussion about this when the left-hander was in London last week. They have agreed in priniciple that Ganguly will lead the side," the source said.

"There were also discussions about the possible coaches. Wright and Bevan are the front runners. It is up to Shah Rukh to take the final call."

Ganguly, meanwhile, said that nothing is final as yet and a proper announcement will be made in due time.

"I don't take the decisions of KKR alone. There are a number of people involved in the process. But hopefully in due course of time we will get a person who will coach the team. The decision has not been made yet," Ganguly said.

The Knight Riders management was also tight-lipped about the development.

When contacted, Knight Riders CEO Joy Bhattacharya told PTI: "At the moment, I don't deny this (Ganguly as captain and Wright as the chief coach). However, there has not been any official announcement as yet."

Asked whether he was aware of this development, he said, "I don't want to comment on this. When there is an official announcement, we will let you know."

The decision has likely come about because the two other best suited candidates for captaincy - Brendon McCullum and Ricky Ponting - will both be on national duty, since New Zealand and Australia are slated to play each other during the IPL.

Mumbai: Talk about ageing gracefully and Shah Rukh Khan seems to be doing it extremely well both on-screen and off-screen. The over 40 actor who plays the role of a loving father in real life will be seen essaying the role of a dad with special powers to teenage kids on reel in his two forthcoming films Karan Johar`s 'My Name Is Khan' and Anubhav Sinha`s 'Ra1'.
While many B-town big daddies are still vying to bag young lover-boy roles and doing everything in their capacity from Botox to pumping iron to play the college lad, Shah Rukh seems to have made peace with his age.

What's more is that the actor is making no qualms about doing such roles and is quiet open-minded about evolving his screen image from a cute-boy to a matured father.

Confirming the news filmmaker Karan Johar told a news daily, " Yes, Shah Rukh is playing father to a teenager in 'MNIK'. It was never an issue for either Shah Rukh or me. But then why should it be? His son Aryan is almost 11. In my first film, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', when Shah Rukh was 30, he played a college student! Actors should not worry about these things. I don`t think they should allow these aspects to interfere in accepting roles based on such things."

Shah Rukh who essays the role of Rizwan Khan in 'My Name Is Khan' is suspected to be a terrorist after authorities mistake his disability for `suspicious` behaviour post 9/11. The film has the actor-playing father to Kajol's teenage son after he marries her.

Shah Rukh Khan plays the father of a teenager in Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan. He is also playing dad to a grown-up child in Anubhav Sinha's Ra1.

When most top actors shy away from playing papas of big kids, SRK feels it is okay for him to be shown as the father of a strapping young lad. For most stars, toddlers or perhaps five-six year olds are okay if they have to play daddy figures.

It is reliably learnt that the actor had no qualms about having a grown-up child when he was told about it. It was not a matter of concern for his screen persona, nor did he discuss the reasons behind the need to be shown with a teenaged offspring.

So what?

Confirms Karan, "Yes, Shah Rukh is playing father to a teenager in MNIK. It was never an issue for either Shah Rukh or me. But then why should it be? His son Aryan is almost 11. In my first film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, when Shah Rukh was 30, he played a college student! Actors should not worry about these things. I don't think they should allow these aspects to interfere in accepting roles based on such things."

MNIK has Shah Rukh essay the character of Rizwan Khan who is suspected to be a terrorist after authorities mistake his disability for 'suspicious' behaviour post 9/11. His co-star Kajol plays Mandira, a Hindu single mother who Rizwan falls in love with.

The film's cast and crew recently returned from a schedule in the US. The next and final stint of shooting will be in Mumbai in September.

First, hear us out, boys. We told you about Shah Rukh Khan holidaying with his bachchas at his favourite hot-spot London. What we didn't tell you is that he loves London so much that when he's there, he drops all his starry inhibitions and becomes one of 'em. Yeah, believe it or not, SRK is often spotted playing cricket in Hyde Park (which is a stone's throw away from his new plush apartment).

His son loves the sport as much as Daddy, so they join Aryan's friends in the park to play their favourite game. Obviously they have quite an audience (and self-appointed cheer-leaders, umpires, etc.), but the game goes on. Some fans even hang around the park for autographs and pictures, but no one, not even the paparazzi really bothers him too much. Well, if the English team plans to join him for one of the games (or simply to rub shoulders with the King Khan)... that will be another story. Don't worry Dada (Sourav); we'll be the first to tell you, so hang in there...

MUMBAI: Karan Johar is a hugely relieved man. The American portion of the shooting for his film, My Name is Khan wrapped up a week back. The director has been shooting in San Francisco for the better part of 5 weeks.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, My Name is Khan started its shooting schedule in December, last year. Due to the shoulder injury of SRK, the shooting was stalled for some time. And with the IPL moving to South Africa, SRK's dates for the film had to be shuffled and Karan shot a large portion of his film in the Filmistan studio of Mumbai.

A close friend of the director spilled the beans, "My Name is Khan has taken a lot from Karan as he feels that there is a lot of expectation riding on his shoulders. People expect him to make a blockbuster film and with a cast as successful as SRK and Kajol, nothing but the best is what they want. And so after he wrapped up the American schedule, Karan went to London for a 4 day holiday."

A holiday for Karan means a lot of shopping, a lot of fine dining and a lot of good conversation. And with the Khan family, also holidaying in the Queen's Land, Karan must have certainly let his hair down.

We all know King Khan loves living life king-size. Recently after wrapping up the  shoot for Karan Johar's My Name is Khan, Shah Rukh Khan set off for London with his family to enjoy a much deserved vacation.

Unlike other stars who would probably check into a hotel when they're in London, Shah Rukh Khan stayed at a house he bought in one of London's most expensive localities (Park Lane, Central London).

"The actor has always said that London is one of his most favourite places to relax and unwind. Every year, during the kids' vacation, the family of four heads off to the Queen's country. He has been spotted spending evenings with Aryan and Suhana at Hyde Park, a stone's throw away from Park Lane," a source was quoted by Mid-Day as having said.

The source further told the paper that a regular apartment in the area costs anywhere between '2 million pounds and 8 million pounds.'

Apparently Shah Rukh Khan bought himself a house with five bedrooms, which cost him close to 7 million pounds."

We're not quite sure how often Shah Rukh visits this place. But we're quite certain it must be a helluva room... with a whew!

Karan Johar, on moving ahead, moving films and moving towards making remakes and reducing extravagance

Karan Johar has just returned from a fifty-day schedule of My Name is Khan from San Francisco, followed by a short break in London. He left right after his birthday bash in May, and now, has returned to oversee the release of two Dharma films Wake Up Sid and Kurban. He will shortly embark on the final schedule of My Name Is Khan (MNIK) in Mumbai. Over coffee and sandwiches, the coolest director in town talks about his films, his shopping indulgences and why he hates hats. Read on...

You must be bummed about MNIK not releasing this year.
Both Shah Rukh and I were keen to release it this year. But there were some factors that were beyond our control. Now, because of this delay, Shah Rukh doesn't have a release this year and that is unfortunate. But the circumstances were beyond our control.

Some of the delay was caused by his surgery?
Not really. Yes, the surgery did push us ahead but also the fact that this is a very tough film to film. Other factors have delayed it. A lot of scheduling had to be done... also there was a lot of computer graphic work. So, we just took a call that we won't be rushing for no rhyme or reason. Let's not push it.

So early next year?
Hopefully. We are looking at a Jan or Feb release.

But you have Kurban and Wake Up Sid ready for release. How involved are you as a producer?
Up to a point, really. I need to have faith in the director, which I obviously do, because that's why he is directing a film for me. Once we go through the process of greenlighting the script, scheduling, and structuring the cast and list of technicians, I step out. Because I feel like every filmmaker has to find his or her voice. And there is no point in me sitting there and confusing them. I think that every individual whether it is Tarun or Aayan, or Rensil everyone has his own voice and it has nothing to do with me.

But in the end, it's your call on the final product...
They really come as creative suggestions. And I think, sometimes, if I feel very strongly about something, I might try and convince the director, rather than enforce my opinion. But, by large, it's the director's voice, and being a filmmaker, I know the importance of making a film based on your convictions. In fact, my deciding factor to work with a filmmaker is how original he is. I like that the fact that they combat what I say. That they are so convinced about what they feel that no matter what I am saying, they are not buying it.

The climax of Dostana was changed. Whose idea was that?
That was entirely Tarun's call. He came to me and said, 'Look, I have shot it and I don't think it works.' I looked at it and I said, 'Ya, you may be right.' Initially, I made him opt for the safe climax. Tarun kept saying, 'It's an edgy film, lets push the envelope.' And finally, he came to me and said, 'Look, I have shot it the way you wanted, but it is not working with the narrative.' So I told him to come up with something that worked. He came back to me in two days. Tarun works like that. He is very spontaneous. He can write an entire script in a week. He can lock himself in a room and sit and finish it. He came back and said, 'It has two of the protagonists kissing.' And I said, 'WHAT???' Tarun said he would write it and show it to me, he did and we all thought it worked. Again, that reiterates that, eventually, it is the conviction of the director that is paramount, and not mine.

True. Dostana didn't look like a film directed by you, Kal Ho Na Ho did.
(Pauses) Dostana is definitely all Tarun. Of course, it has the prerequisites of a Dharma film, like the glamour, the costuming and the whole look and feel but it's otherwise the performances, the way he moves the story ahead. It's Tarun's baby.

And is the sequel happening?
It's definitely happening,

Abhishek and John are in?
We can't do Dostana 2 without Abhishek and John. They are indispensable.

John has been quoted as saying that this time, he wants "an acting" part.
I don't know what is not an acting part, ever. I mean every role is an acting part. Everyone had to act, it's what actors do. I thought John was great in Dostana and I am sure that Abhishek and John's chemistry the film's USP shines again in the sequel.

And Katrina is on for the sequel?
We haven't decided any other cast of Dostana 2.

Is there any chance of Kareena coming in the film, now that she and Abhishek are on speaking terms again â€" it was one of the many patch-ups that happened at your birthday party.
There's much ado about these breaks-ups and patch-ups. I think, internally, what equation they share is something for them to comment on, but I am sure Abhishek and Kareena are more than open to working with each other, whenever they have a chance. Right now, I don't have a film for which I am considering this cast. I think everyone is over and above whatever issues they've had in the past.

Your birthday turned into a UN peace convention, didn't it? So many people put aside their differences and became friends again.
It was meant to be a fun party to celebrate my 37th birthday. I try and have a party a year, because I have decided that I may not get married and I may not have a series of functions related to big weddings. So I thought, what I can do for myself is have a birthday party every year. I absolutely love my birthday and I love receiving calls, text messages, gifts and global importance on that one day. I love every bit of it. I am glad some good things happen at the party. I thought it was a great fun party,  it had great energy, and there was an air of positivity all around and I think that may have translated into some fantastic conversations between people. I did not intend for it to become this alleged peace convention it was projected as. It was a fun party of people I know and love, and if they felt the love, for each other, God bless them.

They were some people who felt offended because you left them out, will they be in your next guest list?
Everyone who is important to me, was there.

Why did you change the title from Jihaad (now Kurban). Also, any worries about your film being similar to New York?
Rensil was never keen on this title because he wanted the title to resonate the love story much more than the terror angle. Both Rensil and I feel that the love story is the basic moving point of this film. Comparisons to New York are inevitable because they revolve around global terrorism but there are no similarities except maybe atmospheric one, that's bound to happen because they are both about a certain issue. Otherwise, story-wise and narrative-wise, they are totally different films.

There were reports of tension between you and Adi because of the similar subjects.
I would be really stupid to be best friends with Aditya Chopra and make the same film. Both Adi and I were completely in the loop of it. What saddens me is that, now, for no reason there will be a comparison whereas it could've been avoided. Kurban is entirely different from New York. And I hope that like New York got accepted, this one will too.

Dharma was known for certain kind of films..but now that's changing. Even the film you are making is different. Would you want to revisit what you are best known for?
For me, there is never going back, there is always going forward. I think that films I produced and directed were my sensibility at the time. I feel like doing things that make a difference to me today. Whatever I am producing and directing are films I feel like doing today. I don't think I can write a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or a Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham ever again.

Not even if people expect that from you?
I get a lot of people coming and telling me, 'Make another KKHH.' I can't. I don't have that innocence, I don't have that rawness and I don't have that love for love anymore. And so it doesn't come to me naturally. It would be me, trying to be me in 1998, and I am not interested. I want to do films that move me today. Some times they are subjects that have social relevance and sometimes they are subjects that are simple and sweet. Like Wake-up Sid.  I am so excited because Dharma is producing so many films and we are working with new energies and talent, and they are bringing their own ideas. A lot of these films I am incapable of making on my own, so I am happy to produce them.

But it's easier to direct now?
I mean, ya, now when I read my scene, I know when to break it up. I know how to shoot it, I know I can place it, and take all kinds of shots and I know I will shoot the scene but sometimes it's mechanical but sometimes the content is different, and it excites you in a different way, and it pushes you out of that space.  But in KKHH, every shot I took was unsure. Every moment I created was insecure. Also what happens is that with expectations, you feel you have to deliver. And in the process of trying to deliver, you exact yourself a lot. Which takes away from spontaneity, and what is not spontaneous, is never really great.

What's with the remakes: Stepmom and Agneepath?
Siddharth (Malhotra) developed Stepmom and he came to me with it. Ironically, it is also one of my favourite emotional films. I love a good cry and I remember watching it in London in 1998, with my friend Sheena and 80 people in that tiny hall, and I remember we wept our guts out. I cried so much, that I had a cold after that. And I thought it was a great film idea for India. Ten years later, Siddharth comes with a developed idea and I decided to make it but through the official route. We went and got the rights. And we said we will do it if we get the best possible cast for it, and that we did.

What about Agneepath
Agneepath is a very important film for me. My father's biggest disappointment in life was the failure of Agneepath. Because it was so respected, so revered and had a huge cult following but commercially, it didn't appreciate. Also I think it was one of Amit uncle's finest performances. I remember that it broke my father's heart at that point that they didn't refer to it as a commercial success, and he always brought it up. And I decided to do this remake for him, and hopefully, it will work this time.

One hears that you are considering Hrithik for the role. Wouldn't Abhishek be a natural choice for it?
We haven't cast it as yet. That will come when the scripting is ready. We are changing the film. It will be more modern; set in present time. It will be more like a biopic of an underworld don.

Will you ever shoot a film entirely in India?
I would love to. Unfortunately, my last two films have subjects that I had to shoot abroad. I could not made KANK here, because you can't have an extramarital affair here, without a mausi, chachi or neighbour finding out. And Khan, because of its subject..

Khan is your most expensive film yet?
Yes, it is. We always knew it was going to be a big film, but with recession, and changes in the dollar price, it became more expensive, and now Shah Rukh has stepped in as co-producer to help me.

Are you capable of making a small-budget film? Or at least, an economical one like Adi Chopra?
My CEO, Apurva and my Sindhi mother, are constantly trying to get me to control my expenses. But yes, I am learning to do away with the extravagance.

Including your shopping?
That's my mom's nightmare. I tell her I find everything on sale. (laughs) I think in her heart of hearts, she knows I am bluffing. I just bought a trench coat. I don't know when and where I will wear it, but I love spending on clothes, shoes, belts etc.

Which hat do you wear best, producer, director, TV host...
I don't know… I hate hats. I tried buying a few, but they didn't look good on me. I think I am happiest as a director, the others are just extensions of my personality and my work.

Why have you stopped blogging?
I know, I started off with a bang but then, it fizzled out. I know that I should go back to it, but I don't have the drive or the time. Eventually, I will start blogging again. Till then, I am very happy Facebook-ing.

Is she on the verge of a nervous breakdown or is she just a bratty star wife?

From being fiercely private to being Bollywood's biggest party animal – Gauri Khan's recent uncharacteristic and irregular behavior has left her husband and friends shocked. So, what's really going on with the gorgeous Mrs Khan?

Kicked out of London hotspot

Gauri Khan and friends were kicked out of famed London club Tramp, leaving lines of illegal substances and broken bottles of Champagne in their trail. Known for its infamous celebrity guests, the club is no stranger to nefarious activities, so the party of 10 must have been doing something seriously bad to have to be escorted out of the premises!

Partied till 7am at IPL without SRK

Despite her husband leaving South Africa mid IPL, Gauri decided to stay back and party till 7am every night with her four girlfriends. Fellow party animals were shocked to see that the usually reserved Gauri was letting her hair down on the dance floor, somthing no one had seen her do before. Masala! heard someone quipping, 'We want what she's on!'

Keeping bad company

From safe (and boring) K-Jo to wild (and bored) star wives, Bhavna Pandey and Maheep Khan and hot (and spoilt) south Mumbai IT girls Renu Chainani and Nandita Mahtani – Gauri has changed her company drastically in the past few years. SRK expressed how he did not approve of their group activities and was heard telling Gauri to 'grow up and accept the responsibilities that fame comes along with'. His harsh lecture, however, fell on deaf ears as she made plans to go to with the same friends to Europe, Miami and then LA soon after!

When confronted about her irresponsible behavior and the fact that SRK was sitting at home playing video games with the kids, while Gauri was out partying and neglecting the kids, the latter lashed out at SRK telling him that he had no right to control her life and abused him. So angry was the actor that he finally threatened to leave for Mumbai with the kids if she didn't get her act together!

Fed up of being the perfect mrs Khan

For years now Gauri has played the role of the perfect star wife – dressing and acting the part, being seen with the right people (only those who SRK approved of!) and building an image that she exploited and enjoyed at the time. She confided in a friend saying: 'I am tired of living for the world of fans, I want to live for myself. Why can't I?'

Breaking free or breaking down?

While many of Gauri's friends believe that she's just living life for herself, other's are convinced that she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown!

Masala! verdict

Tired and fed up of playing the perfect celeb spouce, the allegedly bratty Gauri is trying to break free. A friend of the couple told Masala! "Gauri now wants to live life for herself. What's wrong with living in the fast lane?" Nothing, we guess, as long as she's got her seatbelt on and her hands firmly on the wheel!

KJo's team denied US visa
Six Muslim members of SRK-Kajol's My Name Is Khan unit are facing problems
By Buzz18 . Dec 23, 2008

The 26/11 terror attacks that shook Mumbai seems to have spread terror across the globe. The American consulate rejected six visa applications of Muslim members of Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan unit recently. And the list includes even television actor-turned film star Aamir Bashir.

My Name Is Khan stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and is currently being shot in Los Angeles. The six team members who were denied a visa also included SRK's personal staff and others from the production team reported Mid Day.

Elizabeth Kauffman, spokesperson of the US consulate refused to comment on the same and told Mid Day, "As a policy, we don't talk about any specific visa cases."

A source however disclosed, "Those who were denied the visa tried to reason that it was only for a film shoot. They proved their bonafides and made it clear that they were actors. The fact that they were part of a unit that had leading B-Town names like KJo and SRK also did not help."

Talking about his case, actor Aamir Bashir said to Mumbai Mirror, "Yes, I have been refused the US visa. It is also true that I was questioned about why I hadn't mentioned my visit to Iran in the application form. I told them that it was simple oversight. However, I do not wish to say anything more at this point."

Meanwhile, the rejected members are said to have submitted fresh applications hoping they'd be lucky this time around.

Priyanka Chopra-Style Diva of EBAY

Priyanka Chopra may have huge fan following but when it comes to her choice, she has got only one name in her lips and he is the favorite of all, Shahrukh Khan. Priyanka has been a great admirer of Shahrukh Khan since the age of six.

Says Priyanka, ''I have always been and will always be a fan of Shah Rukh Khan. I admire a lot of people but true blue, going weak in the knees type of fan I am only of SRK!''

In the long tenure of her career, Piggy Chops has worked with many Bollywood actors but her choice always been Shahrukh. Though she paired with him for the first time in 'Don', she could not forget her first meeting with the actor.

''I have been a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan since I was six. During Miss India 2000, he was one of the judges who asked me a question. I got a chance to meet him backstage and managed to say, ''Hello.'' When he heard that I sing, he asked me to do so. I still don't remember what I sang. I will always admire Shah Rukh.''

Shahrukh Khan was conferred an honorary doctorate in the United Kingdom for his contribution to arts and culture by Bedfordshire University at a ceremony in London last week. In a brief chat from London, SRK reveals what the doctorate means to him. Excerpts...

o Doctorsaab, how does the new tag feel? Very, very cool. It's an honour which would make a boy's parents very happy, so I am sure my mom and dad must be very proud.

Other Indian stars to have been given honorary doctorates in the UK, including Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar and AR Rahman. Do you think your doctorate has come too late?

Everyone gets what they deserve… and when they deserve it. I am an immensely satisfied and happy person with my life and achievements and always appreciate the achievements of my colleagues.

Is an honorary doctorate better than the many awards you have received as an actor?

The race I run doesn't have a finish line. There are no bests in the standards I set for myself. This doctorate is an absolute delight and matter of pride for me and my family and so are all the other awards, but the fun is in running not finishing the race for me.

The university received your nomination from Routes 2 Roots, an NGO that works towards people-to-people contact across the subcontinent, especially India and Pakistan. Are you aware about what they do?
Yes I am. They explained to me all the work they do and why they felt they should nominate my name.

You've said that you aim to use the award to help educate underprivileged children. How will you do that?
First comes the thought of making your life more meaningful, then the direction you want to take to fulfil the thought. The plans and modalities will follow after that. It is too early to give you the system and processes of the same but I will try and create an environment in my office and people to bring about education opportunities especially for little girls — and do it with as little show and publicity as possible.

Though you got the best student award from one of Delhi's top schools with you never finished a Masters degree. Do you regret not having gone in for higher studies?
Studies and trying to figure out things never end. It would have been good to complete my Masters degree but unavoidable circumstances led to it not being finished. But I don't regret it though.

What subject did you love and hate the most in school?
Biology was my favourite and so was English (Shakespeare). Mathematics was a horror especially as I was terrible in it. I did very well in Physics, Chemistry

What does true knowledge mean to you?
The belief that the more you learn the more you know, the more you know the more you forget, the more you forget the less you know, the less you know the less you forget, the less you forget the more you remember, the more you remember the more you know… and the cycle keeps on going. There is no end to seeking and absorbing knowledge. True knowledge is unfathomable, uncapturable, unknowable… like life. but we got to keep living and just like life that we have to live, we have got to keep striving for knowledge without knowing what it leads to.

Mumbai: Karan Johar's next coming movie "My Name Is Khan" is based on post 9/11 situation in US.

It's all about a Muslim who suffers from the Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that impacts social interaction abilities.

The guy is arrested as a suspected terrorist in post-9/11 Los Angeles after authorities mistake his disability for suspicious behaviour.

Talking about the movie Karan Johar says, Shah Rukh has played really well in the movie.

Johar says, "Time and again I'm blown away by Shah Rukh. How can he think of so many things about his character when he has so much on his plate?"

"He has done monumental research on his autistic character. I was zapped by how much he knew on the subject. And he brought all the knowledge on the sets." Johar added.

Ironical, it is. Shah Rukh Khan is now a doctor; but he is also very pained.
He has been awarded a doctorate from the Bedfordshire University in UK for his contribution to arts and culture. "The honour brought me a lot of joy,'' says SRK, who is currently on vacation with Gauri and his children Aryan and Suhana. He laughs when he is addressed as 'Dr' and says, "Somehow it makes me feel slightly older when someone calls me Dr Shah Rukh Khan.''

Describing his time on the podium where he received the honour, he says, "Wearing that square cap with tassels tilted to the left, brought images of the heroes of the 70s; it was an oft-repeated thing in films those days. I didn't know whether etiquette required me to take Aryan and Suhana along for the convocation ceremony. So I left the children behind.'' Happily, Gauri was by his side when he received the honour. "I sincerely hope my parents could have watched this... and I hope that it was a proud moment for them wherever they are,'' the Bollywood Badshah says emotionally.

It is five months since he underwent shouShah Rukh Khan
lder surgery, but SRK is still in pain. "I completed a long spell for Karan Johar's My Name is Khan in San Francisco,'' he says. "We got lucky because we had long days and could pack in ample work. However, my shoulder still hurts.'' He recounts how he shot for a song sequence for Dulha Mil Gaya in which he has a guest appearance and strained his operated shoulder. The actor has been in touch with his surgeon in Mumbai and has been reassured that the recurring pain is part of the rehab, so he continues to go about his daily chores with enthusiasm.

"My shoulder makes strange clicking sounds,'' he says. "However, I've been asked to open doors, lift small objects and keep giving it small doses of regular exercise,'' he adds. The actor who lost a lot of muscle mass because he has been unable to do any active bodybuilding, says his main regret is that Anubhav Sinha's Ra 1, Farah Khan's Happy New Year and Farhan Akhtar's Don-2 will be postponed by three-four months.

"However, there is heavy duty action involved in these films and I can't attempt that till such time as my shoulder is completely healed," says SRK enthused by the very thought of being able to participate in the 'filmi action' that he so revels in.

And, since he is just not the type to sit around doing nothing, right now Bollywood's biggest icon is indulging in a game of cricket with his children at Hyde Park in central London. "I also promised the children that I will wear the black cape and square hat and do a repeat of the convocation ceremony for them because they missed the occasion,'' he says.

Bollywood Mogul Shah Rukh Khan has been conferred with an honorary doctorate in Arts from the University of Bedfordshire, UK, says a press release. At the time of his acceptance of the honour from Professor Les Ebdon, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University, on July 10, Shah Rukh said, "I am delighted that the NGO Routes 2 Roots nominated me for the Honorary Doctorate in Arts…Today I feel that I am part of the illustrious alumni of this prestigious University. I look forward to doing my bit in providing necessary assistance to the deserving students for higher education in my University."

The doctorate was conferred on Shah Rukh in recognition of his exceptional achievement as a film actor and producer. There is an interesting story behind the award. According to Rakesh Gupta, one of the founders of Routes 2 Roots, "Shah Rukh's mother (Fatima Begum) worked as a social worker and a magistrate while his father (Taj Khan) was an engineer. The couple met propitiously under unusual circumstances when his mother was injured in a car accident. Shah Rukh's mother needed blood which his father who happened to be at the hospital donated without knowing her. So if the story is true then doing social work runs in Shah Rukh's blood, literally. He too looks after the sick and shares his wealth with the poor. But he never talks about it as he feels that if you do charity for a reason, it's not charity."

Shah Rukh does indeed keep a low profile on this aspect of his charismatic personality. According to Gupta, he has funded several charitable causes and has also adopted a few villages for electrification in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Apart from regular donations to organisations and individuals (especially in the case of AIDS and cancer patients), he is behind the creation of a children's ward at the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, in memory of his late mother. He is also active with relief funds when the Indian nation faces a natural calamity. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that he was conferred with the prestigious 'Padma Shri' Award for his valuable contribution to Indian art and culture.

Mushtaq Shiekh on Shah Rukh Khan
"I ended up finding some Shah Rukhs and losing some"

"I wanted to tell the world that real success didn't come easy to Shah Rukh. There's a lot more that went into the making of Mannat. But what astonished me about him is how deeply he felt about his family. I've seen him fly different continents to be with them. He's transformed from a reckless guy to someone who deals with life cautiously. He told me, 'When you have children, your perspective of life changes. You see life through them.' The challenge was to present his life as honestly as possible. I ended up finding some Shah Rukhs and wound up also losing some Shah Rukhs. SRK was a friend and so it made the situation at my home different. They knew the man as a friend and not  as a subject of a  biography. So they understood my long absences into the world of SRK."
