When Aamir Khan showed his "yaara da tashan", Shah Rukh Khan yelled "yeh dil maange more". Since then both the Khans have not only been competing in movies but advertisements as well.

Sirf Main Hoon Naa...

Sirf Main Hoon Naa...

Though not a conscious effort but the Khans have been seen endorsing rival brands of colas, cars and now the DTH services at the same time.

However Aamir feels, "There is no competition nowadays. Every actor is doing ads, and our job these days is not to compete. We are only concentrating on the products we are endorsing! Whenever I endorse a product I see if the product is convenient for consumers. Then I am happy that as a star I am able to attract attention towards the product."

Trying to negate the competition between him and SRK, Aamir also added, "Whenever I do anything I do not see left or right or what other people are doing. My entire concentration is on whatever I am doing."

Perhaps there is no competition between the Khans, be it films, tours or endorsements, but the audiences are certainly "santusht" as they have their favorite stars on their tubes.

Shahrukh and Aamir .... who's ahead ?

Dubai: There are two sorts of shows – one that's entertaining and you want to talk about it for a few days. And then there's the other kind - the kind that clogs your memory cells and just sits there for a very long time .

SRK Rocks!

SRK Rocks!

Shah Rukh Khan's devilishly entertaining 'Temptation Reloaded' live concert at Dubai Festival City Arena fell in the second category.

Bristling with high-voltage action and power-packed performances by Bollywood A-listers it was an event Dubai folks are unlikely to forget in a hurry. The Saturday evening concert was truly special. Not just for the audience but for the King of Thrill himself too.

October 25 was Khan's seventeenth wedding anniversary and he celebrated it with wife Gauri by cutting a massive multi-tier cake in front of the 20,000 capacity crowd, triggering mass hysteria in the stands.

Secretly planned by Gauri the onstage celebration caught Khan off guard. But only momentarily. The actor found his bearings quickly. Far too quickly, one thought. Yet insinuations that the whole thing was set-up by Khan were brushed aside by actor Arjun Rampal, who went on to swear on his children that Shah Rukh had no clue of the surprise intervention.

The audience took Rampal's words on 'torso' value because that's what they got to see of him for most part of the show.

"It feels great to celebrate my wedding anniversary with people who have given me so much love," said Shah Rukh.

Dubai was the last leg of the Temptation Reloaded world tour. And pretty soon it became obvious that Khan had saved his best for the last.

Making dramatic stage entries, first on a crane and then in a hot air balloon - the affable actor had the audience in his fists.

The roller coaster ride of fun and entertainment included performances on songs from his blockbusters like Don, Om Shanti Om, Kal Ho Na Ho, and Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and an interactive session with the audience.

Khan called several of them on stage and taught them how to dance and be romantic with their partners before showering them with gifts, which, among other goodies included signed autobiographies and a jacket emblazoned with Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard, his new iconic property venture in Ras Al Khaimah.

Bollywood hotties Katrina Kaif and size zero Kareena Kapoor too gave some sizzling performances on chartbusters from movies like Singh is Kingg , Tashan and Jab We Met. As did pop star Hard Kaur, choreographer Ganesh Hegde and Arjun Rampal, who appeared to have come to Dubai with the single-minded objective of showing off his six pack abs. Every time Rampal came on stage, he took off his shirt, eliciting more jeers than cheers from the crowd.

Promoted by Oasis Promotions, the show was jointly organised by Orbit Events, Kalani Business Consultancy and Hanover Advertising in Dubai. It was anchored by Anusha Dandekar.

It's Shah Rukh Khan's 17th wedding anniversary. And all his fans in the UAE are invited to the party. Arjun Rampal revealed that October 25, the day on which SRK's Temptation Reloaded 2008 show is scheduled in Dubai, is the star's wedding anniversary.

Star addresses media before his October 25 concert in Dubai.

"It's rare for him to get permission from wife Gauri to have a show on this day. So we are going to make it a memorable night," said the actor.

Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Hard Kaur, Anusha Dandekar and Ganesh Hegde are among the stars slated to perform along with SRK and Arjun at the show to be held at the Dubai Festival City Arena.

SRK and Arjun spoke about the show at a press conference in Dubai held on Thursday at the Country Club Hotel, the main sponsor of the event.

It was the most badly organised press conference we have ever attended and we hope the show will be better organised. But despite the crowds of fans at the venue and SRK having to pass the single mike around to the organisers and sponsors who spoke before him, the actor kept his cool and was as witty and charming as ever. He answered questions about his films, endorsements, cricket and controversies.

"As you get older, occasions like anniversaries become moments to celebrate the love I share with my family. So I am happy that my family, friends and fans will be with me on that day. The show will be informal and you can see me be funny and make a fool of myself like I usually do with my family. These shows are not about displaying my talent. They are about getting in touch with my audience to say a personal thank you. It is our way of hosting a party for those who have given me a lot of love," said SRK.

"It has been four years since I performed in the UAE and we want to give our best. Although Arjun and I are not good dancers, we have been rehearsing hard to match steps with Katrina and Kareena. We will dance and jump our hearts out and make sure that everyone has a great time and feels entertained," he added.

Here's our pick of five SRK quips of the day:

Between Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Raj Thakeray, who would you like to invite for tea?
SRK: I don't drink tea. I drink coffee or Pepsi. And invitations to our house are decided by my wife. But jokes apart all three are old friends and would make for interesting teatime conversation. And I can tell you that they all behave like gentlemen at teatime.

Are you a better actor or property developer?
That is for my audience and the people who buy the homes to decide.

Will the financial crisis affect your plans for SRK Boulevard?
My timing was perfect wasn't it? But my partners tell me that people will still need houses.

After movies, cricket and property, which other field do you want to get into?
I would like to do something for the education of kids and women. I respect women and really want to do something for all the women of the Eastern world.

Will you join the Country Club?
I had a lower middle class upbringing and was not fortunate enough to go to clubs, so I am not used to the club culture. My wife is a member of all the clubs and I just go along.

"These shows are not a show of talent or some amazing skill that you possess. This is our way of partying with people who have shared so much love and happiness with us," Shah Rukh Khan said in the course of a media interaction here ahead of his Temptation Reloaded stage show scheduled for Saturday night.

"I have been working for 21 years and I don't really get the opportunity to thank each of my fans personally," he said.

"I am old now," he continued, "and it is quite difficult to do live shows. Some days, I get up and I say I don't really have to do this. It is not for the money, not for the fame any more."

Shah Rukh returns to Dubai after a gap of four years for a live stage show.

Dubai is part of the Temptation Reloaded world tour that the Bollywood star is doing along with Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor.

The tour started in Rotterdam in Holland in June and continued in Singapore.

The show will be compered by MTV video jockey Anusha Dandekar and choreographed by Ganesh Hegde of "Lagaan" fame.

Britain based desi-rapper Hard Kaur will also perform before the Dubai audience.

The show is being sponsored by Country Club Group of India, which has opened a new resort in Dubai this year.

According to the organisers, the show is expected to draw around 18,000 people at the Dubai Festival City Arena.

Dubai is home to around 700,000 of the 1.5 million expatriate Indians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As the curtains come down on former India skipper Sourav Ganguly's international career after the Australia series, he will still have a major role in leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), said team owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Most of the team policies are decided by him (Ganguly's) and we will all sit down with him and discuss where he stands and, inshallah, he will play as well for the Knight Riders as he did last season, Shah Rukh told IANS here.

Shah Rukh said that his team will start the next season with a three-week camp in January ahead of the second edition of the tournament slated for May. In that pre-season camp, we will all sit down and Sourav will form an important part of that decision (making process), Shah Rukh said.

In the first edition, the Knight Riders failed to make the semi-finals despite getting off to a good start. On Ganguly's retirement, the actor felt that great players could only decide when to go.

I respect him too much. It's an honour that he is a part of Kolkata Knight Riders. If Kolkata Knight Riders becomes a force to reckon with it will only be because of Sourav, he said.

Shah Rukh also said that the management has already started planning for an improved show in the second edition of the IPL. We don't want to disturb him (Ganguly) yet. We have started having meetings for the Knight Riders for the last five-six days and by January we will sit down with him and take his decisions into account, he said.

Shah Rukh Khan

is set to make a mark as a producer on the small screen. Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd is producing a weekly sitcom called Ghar Ki Baat that will air on NDTV Imagine. Ghar Ki Baat is Red Chillies' first production on television.

Says a source, "Ghar Ki Baat is a weekly show that will air on NDTV Imagine. The shoot is going to commence from the 24th of this month. Juhi Babbar, Sumeet Raghavan, Swapnil Joshi and Jayati Bhatia are part of the show. Aziz Mirza is the creative director while Ananth Mahadevan will direct the show. Ghar Ki Baat is probably going to be on the same lines to that of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi."

Though he didn't reveal anything about the show Sumeet Raghavan did confirm being offered the show. On the other hand, Jayati Bhatia admitted to being part of the cast. It is also buzzed that there may be similarities between Ghar Ki Baat and the old time mega hit Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. When asked to comment on this Jayati replied, "I don't think so. The only thing similar is that it's a weekly sitcom."

We called up Samar Khan of Red Chillies but he refused to comment and asked as to contact the channel.

Imagine programming head Shailja Kejriwal remained unavailable for comment.

Even if the show is remotely 'inspired' by Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi viewers are in for a rollicking time.

The organiser of a Shah Rukh Khan international show 'Tempation Reloaded' has decided to take legal action against the actor for cancelling at the last minute and renames show 'Temptation Unloaded'.

Says Qasim Ali, global manager of Sensasian Media which was managing the Temptation Reloaded show, "After Shah Rukh Khan decided to cancel the shows, I sent him an SMS requesting him to do at least one show but he did not revert. We have lost about one million euros in this whole deal and will demand compensation from the actor."

Qasim Ali says a clause in the contract he signed with Khan states that the star has the right to keep the down payments in case of cancellation. "So, we have come to the conclusion that the shows have been cancelled on purpose," he said.

Khan had reportedly exited three days before the October 17,18 and 19 gigs in Germany because the "organiser had defaulted". Industry watchers say this is the first time the box-office boss, known to be a professional, had pulled out of a show. When contacted, Khan said, "They can say what they want, all this will be dealt with in a legal way as it should be. So I am not really the right person to ask. The cancellation was a decision based on the requirements most important for the show, including finance, accommodation, travel etc which were not met. The legality of it is being followed by the legal department and things will take their course."

In an attempt to keep the show rolling, Sensasian Media renamed Temptation Reloaded `Temptation Unloaded'. German television comedian Kaya Yanar took the stage at Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Almost 10,000 SRK fans Khan who had bought tickets to all three shows were promised a refund.

Khan also called off the Spanish leg of the tour (organised by another party) since it followed the shows in Germany. An industry insider said that this is not the first time Sensasian Media has bungled. "It happened earlier this year in the case of Shilpa Shetty and the Bachchan family's Unforgettable show. The company failed to organise these shows," the source said.

When someday someone decided to remake the yesteryear hit Don, it was Shahrukh Khan who was considered as the best bet to match up to the charisma of Amitabh Bachchan. Then be it playing the gangster or dancing to the song Khaike Paan Banaras Wala , SRK did total justice to the act.

Just a few moons after Big B graced the wax museum at Madame Tussaud's, it was Shahrukh Khan, so loved and so admired by people all over the world, to be thought worthy and carved into a wax statue.

Also, while Bachchan forayed into the small screen with the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati , it was SRK yet again who was deemed fit to host the second season of the show and thereby match up again the magnetism of the matinee idol.

And it doesn't stop here. The same time around the Bachchans kicked off their Unforgettable Tour, King Khan was busy globetrotting for his Temptations Reloaded tour.

And now, it's their Dubai connection that has once again forced us to do that comparison. Just a few months after the Bachchans acquired a property in Dubai, Khan has gone a step ahead striking a deal with a property developer for a project, Shahrukh Khan Boulevard.

The place is Dana Island in Ras Al Khaimah and the money to be invested is a whooping Dh8 billion and Khan's idea is to cut out a familial heaven in the beautiful Dubai.

At the event of launching the project, Khan promised, "Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard promises to be as colourful, vibrant, romantic yet realistic as my hit movies."

Khan who is a hot selling brand ambassador for various big brands has joined hands with property developers TSA Group to launch the marvelous architectural project but this time he is not merely endorsing the brand but also owns the project that will be completed by 2012. The actor is also creatively involved in the building process.

Underground glass tunnels leading up to underground glass discotheques, sit-in theatres by the beach, a public square and high-end stores are just few of the attractive factors that the project has on offer.

The smooth talking romantic star on screen, a loving husband and a dotting father at home and an intelligent businessman at work… a great combination that makes great men and the man called Shahrukh Khan!

At star designer Shabina Khan's birthday bash held recently at Olive, Bandra, all eyes were on Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar who were seen bonding in one corner for over an hour.

This is interesting, given that Akki has been making digs at SRK in his last few interviews. The guests were surprised to see the two actors engrossed in a deep conversation for long.

Khuli dushmani

Akshay and SRK are both fierce competitors. The only man who can threaten SRK's position is the Khiladi. This year with the 'Singh' delivering the maximum hits was pitted against the 'King' and the usually politically-correct Akshay made statements about dogs (remember Aamir's blog) and knights (Kolkata Knight Riders). Although SRK never reacted to those statements, the animosity was out in the open. Following which, both avoided each other at filmi dos and social events.

An eye-witness from the party says, "The two actors haven't come face-to-face in a long time, so they haven't had a chance to sort things out. But that changed at the party. They talked at length and realised that some mischief makers were at work. It was mostly SRK who was doing the talking and Akki listening. The discussion was also of misunderstandings being deliberately created between both. Then they discussed the possibility of doing a film together. SRK invited Khiladi Kumar for an evening of games at his home, Mannat. An invitation to the Khan residence is a sign of acceptance in his close group."

The source continues, "When curious guests wanted to find out what the two actors talked about, SRK got irritated. Don't be surprised if they produce a film together and star in it. It will be the hottest project even before it goes on the floors."

Both the actors were unavailable for comment.

Berlin, Oct 18 (IANS) Over 200 fans from all over Europe assembled at the Velodrom, the German capital's indoor stadium, to say they still love Shah Rukh Khan - though their hopes were dashed when a show featuring the Bollywood heartthrob was cancelled.Dressed in silk saris and satin salwars, the colourful crowd of mostly women fans lit candles outside the entrance in the shape of SRK and said they were disappointed that "Temptation Reloaded", the live dance and music extravaganza starring King Khan, was cancelled Friday.

"I can't believe that I will not see Shah Rukh tonight," Pamela, 33, told IANS. Pamela had come from Zurich with stars in her kajal-painted eyes and returned from Berlin with tears.

Angela Gotze, 26, said: "I want Shah Rukh to know that we are not angry with him. We love him and miss him and want him to come to Berlin soon."

Gotze had travelled from the ceremony at the stadium to join hundreds of other fans collected in another part of town outside Goya, the most fashionable and largest disco here and the location of "Cabaret", the Hollywood classic starring Lisa Minelli.

More than 10,000 tickets were sold for the German tour of "Temptation Reloaded". However two days before the first show in Berlin Friday, it was cancelled to the deep disappointment of Shah Rukh fans.

A 16-year-old from a small town in Germany was devastated. In a message posted at Planet Sharukh, the online forum of Shah Rukh Khan fans worldwide, she wrote, "'Temptation Reloaded' is cancelled…it is all over now. What shall I do now?

"Shahrukh do you know how much I love you??? No, this is such a pity. I am so sad that I cannot find words, my most beautiful dream did not come true, just like that…sorry but I have to express my grief and my anger."

A 42-year-old housewife and mother of three children told IANS that she came to Berlin from Stuttgart though her husband and her two older children mock her for loving Shah Rukh. Besides, she runs a restaurant and in her absence the business is bound to suffer.

Fans were allowed to use their tickets to attend the midnight party at the Goya where the star attraction was Kaya Yanar, the famous German stand up comedian of Turkish origin.

Yanar was scheduled to perform on stage with Shah Rukh.

"I was preparing my scene for months. I am a great fan of Bollywood films. Hollywood films are about violence and winning, German films are too intellectual but Bollywood films are about emotions and love. I love Shah Rukh. I was excited about performing with him," Yanar told IANS before he went on stage to try and make those fans happy who tried to drown their disappointment by rocking to Bollywood film music.

Yanar told the cheering crowd that Shah Rukh has promised to come to Berlin very soon.

On popular demand, Yanar, 37, danced to "Shava Shava" from "Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham", the 2001 blockbuster directed by Karan Johar and which was the first film to be dubbed in the German language and shown on an entertainment channel here.

For many German fans, "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" is the start of their romance with Bollywood films.

However, other fans of Indian cinema are concerned that the random cancellation of events like "Temptation Reloaded's" tour in Germany will damage Bollywood related activities and institutions in Germany.

"There is fear of a loss of image for us all and this can become a problem in the future," an official from Bollywood and Beyond, Germany's only and annual festival of Indian cinema, told IANS in an e-mail message.

"German fans hate being ignored. The organisers and the artistes don't look good in this shady affair," said a journalist from a publication about Bollywood news in the German language.

"We have to find out more about who is responsible. Maybe I should turn this into a film script, I am thinking a Madhur Bhandarkar movie!" said the German journalist trying to smile in the midst of a blame game started by both the Indian and German organisers and promoters of "Temptation Reloaded" who seemed least concerned about the inconvenience caused to thousands of fans.

Shah Rukh Khan was in Malaysia on Saturday. He was conferred a Datukship, the country's equivalent of a knighthood.

The actor is among 78 people to get the award in conjunction with the governor's 70th birthday, alongside the country's navy chief, academics, artists and journalists.

Special bond

The Datuk was given to SRK as he has helped promote Malacca as a tourist destination through his films 1 2 Ka 4 and Don.

The actor who returned to Mumbai on Monday says, "I have a special bond with Malaysia and the people who live there. For years, I have been going there and always hoped to make films in the country and it's various states because of the warmth of the people.

They do love me a lot there. I got the opportunity to shoot 1 2 Ka 4 in Malacca and Don there and am really honoured by their awarding me a Datukship.

Global spokesperson

The actor who has also received awards from many other countries previously, adds, "I am just as the right place at the right time but I feel l like a global spokesperson for our media and films. Whether it is a French award, the Grévin museum, Madam Tussaud's and now Malaysia, it speaks volumes for the work and honour our country is achieving internationally.

Awards like Datuk make me want to work harder and do my bit for making the profession of films even more popular around the world I think the Malacca governor for bestowing this honour upon me and promise to uphold the love shown to me by the Malacca people."

But the award came with a controversy.  Opposition leaders slammed the move and questioned the governor for choosing to honour the Indian actor, with the Datuk. Khan brushes off the debate over the title with, "The lesser said the controversy, the better. It's becoming a way of life with me. I don't react to it because I find they take away from positivity that I want to spread through my work.

And it is perhaps this similarity, that has prompted Karan Johar to cast Maddie as SRK's brother in My Name is Khan.Madhavan, who hasn't smelt a lot of success in Tamil cinema in recent times, is already working for 'Theen Patti' with Amitabh Bachchan and Three Idiots with Aamir Khan. Frankfurt - Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has cancelled three live song-and-dance shows scheduled in Germany this week, according to his German promoter on Tuesday. The top name in Indian film was to have compered and performed with his cast at a glittering theatrical show on Friday night in Berlin, followed by performances Saturday in Munich and Sunday in Frankfurt. "Cancelling three concerts with about 10,000 tickets sold at the last minute is rudeness to the fans," said SensAsian Media Ltd, the German company organizing the tour, in a statement distributed by a Frankfurt public-relations agency. The company said it was told by way of a letter from the heart- throb star's lawyer that the actor was not available for the "Temptation Reloaded 2008" tour and no reason was given. But the company confirmed there had been disputes during earlier negotiations with the star's agent. Tickets to the shows cost up to 150 euros. Bollywood love-story movies have developed a small but loyal following in Germany.

For almost two decades, 'Baadshah of Bollywood' Shah Rukh Khan has been entertaining us through the dream world of cinema. The actor, who is known to try out different mediums of entertainment (be it Films/ T.V. / Sports- IPL), is now getting into something which is a shift from the dream world into a world of reality.

In case you are wondering what we are talking about, it's the latest project that King Khan is part of called Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard. For the uninitiated, Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard is an AED 8 billion signature beachfront residential development at the picturesque Dana Island in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven Emirates of the UAE. Besides 10 premium residential towers and its fair share of high-end hotels and commercial complexes, the Boulevard will also have an underwater discotheque and lounge connected by a glass tunnel, a sit-in theatre, a shopping mall, called the Shah Rukh Khan Plaza, and a public square on the beach, the first of its kind in the world.

The actor, who was in Dubai recently at the announcement of this mega project, said that this is the first time that he is venturing out into something which doesn't require him to sing and dance around trees. The actor is involved in this project along with UAE's TSA Group which in turn will work closely with L.A. based architect Tony Ashai to make this dream a reality. Shah Rukh also spoke highly of the love and support that he has received every time from fans in the UAE and said that it was always his dream to be involved in such a project that will help in giving people a quality lifestyle experience.

Even the first set of print ads of the Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard has the actor talking about things which cant be made real in the world of cinema and how some things work and feel best only when they are real.

Whether the Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard will indeed be a 'Real Lifestyle Experience' is something which we would know only when the project is completed in 2012.

You already know about SRK Boulevard, the Dhs8 billion beachfront project Shah Rukh Khan is building on Ras Al Khaimah's Al Dana Island, in collaboration with the UAE-based TSA Group. Now find out how he wants this project to be "unique" and "special".

In a one-on-one with Masala! following a press conference, King Khan talks about his idea of a perfect home and more.

How will you leave your mark on this project?

I've been really trying to think that out. I don't want it to be too much SRK, like any sort of image or photograph, because one day if you don't like Shah Rukh Khan, I don't want you not to like your home. I know finally Shah Rukh Khan will get over, but I want you to love your home all the time.

I want to design something with my wife and (architect) Tony that will be me, yet not be in your face. A thing you will look at and say, this is something Shah Rukh Khan did himself. It could even be a flower arrangement (pointing to a vase on the table), but I hope it will be more concrete and permanent than that (smiles).

What B'wood element can we expect? An Om Shanti Om disco?

Of course there will be a nightclub and of course, as you say, there will be elements of Bollywood. Now my work is beginning to define me a little and I'm beginning to get recognised.

Even if it sounds pompous, I AM Bollywood. So there has to be Bollywood themes woven in. We haven't worked out the details yet, but it will be something significantm definitely.

What material thing is closest to you in your own home?

That's a lovely question! It's a Wurlitzer jukebox that plays CDs. You know, more than anything else, I like open spaces. My idea of a perfect home is where my son does a double sommersault and lands on my shoulders, without hitting a table.

How many of your famous friends have signed up already?

All my friends will come – and you will see them. I want to give them something concrete to look at first and only then will I talk to them about this.

I've always sold dreams, now I'm selling reality. But this project is not for Shah Rukh Khan and friends. This is for you, for everyone. A place where everyone can have a home and share a smile.

... and pass the bubble bath!

Asked a cheeky question about bathtubs at the press conference, SRK said:

"I will come free with the bathtubs. I promise you I will be in them every Saturday morning."

Here are the views of King Khan on terrorism, religion and a wide gamut of subject, as published in a leading weekly.

Evil is a religion of its own. There's no such thing as a professional Muslim terrorist. There's just a professional terrorist. Evil has become a discipline, a faith of its own. It does take, after all, a lot of planning to make explosives, do a recce of where to plant them, and then plan a way to escape.

My children are growing up at a time when a new religion has come up, which is morally, ethically and humanely against the tenets of any faith. Fundamentalism itself has become the new religion. And I fear it will take elements from every religion and create a new force if we don't educate our children appropriately.

Every time I read of a bomb blast or watch such an incident on TV, two things strike me. One is good. That those directly affected by the attack never actually blame any particular community. But what disturbs me is this-and it really goes against my most basic belief-that education is the solution to all our problems.

Whenever I read that an educated person is behind a bomb attack, it saddens me. It could be that the degree is only a piece of paper for the person or that education really had no impact on him. It did not shape his intelligence or his mind in the way it should have.

As an Indian Muslim, how do I feel about all this? Well, for one, I would like to believe that my work has become my religion, my defining identity. Yes, when I go to a Muslim area, I am referred to as bhai. But I think even when I visit a Muslim nation, the fact that I have mostly played characters called Rahul or Raj in Hindi films is never an issue.

I have played a major Muslim character onscreen just once in my life, that of Kabir Khan in Chak De! India. I gave him a little beard, made him speak a little more Urdu, and even had a namaz scene in the film that was edited finally for its length. But I don't recall anyone even noticing that.

Just yesterday, I was launching a business venture in Dubai and my hosts were religious Muslims. They wanted to take my entire family on Haj, even my in-laws. Having said that, I do feel belittled or shall I say irritated now that I am frisked a lot more when I travel to America.

Surprisingly though, I feel, as a nation, we have become a lot more tolerant. I remember, when Gauri and I got married almost two decades ago, our religion was an issue for both Hindus and Muslims. Both of us had to give false addresses when we registered our marriage.

And now when I was travelling recently, an air hostess was telling me how she is a Hindu, married to a Muslim in Dubai. I asked her, is that such a big deal? And she said, no, it was just something she wanted to share with me.

Everyone knows I celebrate both Id and Diwali. Yet my wife has never celebrated either in a different or less way. The children do both Id namaz and Diwali puja and mix-and-match all the time with ease.

My only prayer to everyone is that if a nun is raped in Orissa, please don't make it a Christian versus Hindu issue, or if a blast takes place, don't say it is a Muslim versus Hindu matter.

These are killers. Plain and simple. They have no religion. And if they do have an agenda, I would like to say to them, go get another one. Go green, be good to poor people, educate a girl child, or even be kind to animals.

I firmly believe that the country was heading towards a state of equality for all religions till a few people decided they didn't want it to happen. Yes, Hindus and Muslims have had historical problems since the Partition, so have Christians and Muslims since the Dark Ages.

But history is quickly forgotten. I believe modern young Indians need to feel that their work should be their religion and should define them. It will be a more neutral identity, have an international acceptance and will be based on their talent, their mind, and their heart.

Michelle Yeoh has expressed a desires to work with SRK
Michelle Yeoh has expressed a desires to work with SRK

New Delhi, October 13: Actress Michelle Yoeh, best known for acting in multiple-Oscar winning film 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and Bond film 'Die Another Day,' loves to deliver punches on screen but her ultimate desire is to pair with India's romantic idol King Khan.

Yoeh, whose science-thriller 'Babylon AD' released in Indian theatres recently is also hoping that the film would be liked in India.

"I know Shah Rukh Khan is quite famous in India and I would love to star opposite him. But unfortunately no calls yet. But, yes I wish I could get to work with him as a lead actress, be it a Hollywood or Indian film," says Yoeh.

This Asian actress is a Bollywood fan too.

"I am an Asian and I like Indian films a lot. Have seen a couple of them in subtitles," Yoeh said in an email interview.

Michelle Yoeh stars opposite Vin Diesel in 'Babylon AD,' which is set against the backdrop of not-too-distant future where much of the planet is in a war zone left by nuclear meltdowns.

In the film, Diesel is playing the character of a mercenary, who is assigned to smuggle a young woman Aurora (Melanie Thierry) from a convent in Kazakhstan to New York City with Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yoeh) as Aurora's guardian.

"Kassovitz wanted a nun who could fight, so I was roped to play a feisty French nun, someone who could stand up to Vin, physically and mentally," Yoeh describes her character in the film.

The actress says she enjoyed playing the role of a fighter nun as she got the chance of doing what she loves best—kicking and punching.

"In one scene where I had to kick someone and by mistake I hurt him. I felt embarrassed as his nose just couldn't stop bleeding but somehow Vin controlled the situation," says Yoeh recalling the incident.

"Since the incident the talk on the sets was about this Asian girl who kicks too hard and warned each other to either better stay away while stunts or take maximum precautions," says an amused Yoeh.

Yoeh admits that she takes special pride in her capability to do dangerous stunts.

"For me stunts are the greatest challenge. I love what I do. I love the physical aspect of it. I do take a lot of pride, and I do respect the people that I work with, particularly the stunt people."

The actress is not ready to reveal much about her future plans though.

"There are 4-5 untitled...

Shahrukh Khan at Filmfare Bash
This piece of news will not sound good to Shahrukh Khan's fans. But it is a fact and we all have to accept it any way. It is reported that King Khan will bid goodbye to films in three years. He is planning to move to Dubai and his wife Gauri has already started planning for a new Mannat in Dubai. Mannat is very dear to SRK and he is emotionally attached to his abode. With an aim to feel the same pleasure, he has given the task of designing a replica of Mannat in Dubai to Gauri as he has made up his mind to leave film and get into production and building housing complexes.

The source continues, "Shah Rukh has already started looking – and it has just been announced – for land in Dubai where he intends to build housing and shopping complexes."
Says a source, "Shah Rukh knows that his time in Bollywood as an actor is limited. An actor can only go on for so long and with the kind of roles he plays – young romantics – then he will not be able to do that for any longer. He is already getting old. Shah Rukh hopes to retire from films within the next 3-4 years after which he will concentrate on production business. Shah Rukh will not make a complete exit from acting but intends to star in at least one film per year, but this will be for his own banner and the role will be of a supporting actor."

The source continues, "Shah Rukh has already started looking – and it has just been announced – for land in Dubai where he intends to build housing and shopping complexes."

Linc Pen and Plastics is all set to rope in Shah Rukh Khan as its brand ambassador. "We want to aggressively market our brand in the western region where Shah Rukh is popular and it is possible only through brand endorsements," said company MD Deepak Jalan.

Mr Jalan, however, declined to quantify the endorsement fee that King Khan would get. "We will spend Rs 8 crore this year for advertising and marketing," he said.

Linc accounts for less than 5% of the Rs 504-crore western India market for writing instruments. Pan-India, the company has an 8-9% marketshare with Cello and Reynolds being the major competitors. The pen industry in India is worth Rs 2,100 crore, Mr Jalan said.

Like all other sectors, the pen industry in India is also hit by rising input costs. Mr Jalan said the company "would keep in mind raw material prices, which have gone up 10-15%, while launching new products.
Linc is expected to launch a premium segment pen this year.

Linc is also looking at exports to the Middle East and to South American countries after facing the impact of US and UK slowdown. The company's exports totalled Rs 39 crore last fiscal year. Linc sells 1.5 million pens daily of which about a fifth is exported. It's total revenue is Rs 177.20 crore.

That the composing duo of Salim-Sulaiman are talented is something everyone will agree with, the two have been behind the music for some really big films like Chak De India, Aaja Nachle and Fashion. Up next for them is the soundtrack for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Salim recently sat down with Sandhya Iyer and talked all things music. Here are some highlights from that interview.

Their most recent release has been the music for the animated film
Roadside Romeo and Salim said they really did not approach it any differently than their other soundtracks, "The thing is that even though this is an animation film, it has been treated like a proper Hindi film. The only difference is that this has dogs as characters. We wanted to keep the 'Indianness' intact and at the same time keep it kid-friendly and modern. The whole idea was to have songs that are simple, urban…lot of repetitive hooks. We never imagined there would be so much detailing involved in the film."

Besides the songs for films the duo also has composed many background scores and Salim says it is one of the aspects of the music industry they enjoy the most. "Background music will always be our first love. People don't realise but it is such an integral part of a film. In the West especially, it plays an even more important role – at least here we have a musical tradition and incorporate songs. That's not the case with films in other countries. Which is why background music becomes the sound of your film…it is the soul of a movie. It has the potential to elevate a film's story to another level altogether."

Speaking about the success of the music for Madhur Bhandarkar' s
Fashion Salim said, "Madhur (Bhandarkar) was very open about the kind of music he wanted. Besides 'Jalwa'…, there's also 'Mar Jawan' which is good – it has a lot of Arabic touches. After Fashion, there will be Rab Ne…which will be the icing on the cake."

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which stars Shah Rukh Khan and is directed by Aditya Chopra is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. The two were shocked when they were approached for the film, "When Adi (Aditya Chopra) said we'd be doing the music for his film, we were pretty shocked. We said, 'Are you joking! You can get anyone to do music for the film. Shankar Ehsaan Loy, A R Rahman…anyone, then why us? He replied, 'You have an untapped energy in you and I want that element in the film'."

He went on to reveal more about the style of the music saying, "All I can say is that the songs are very different. They have a rustic quality to them. There is a lot of Indianness and simplicity in the songs. But I can tell you, we're thrilled about the film's title song. It's our finest ever….like an iconic love song."

Fans are sure to rush out to get their copy of the soundtrack and Salim revealed when it will be released. "We're looking at releasing it on Diwali day. I'm sure Adi has planned for something big."

Also in the pipeline for the two are Soham Shah's
Luck with Imran Khan, Shimit Amin's film with Ranbir and Rensil D'Silva's next starring Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi.

King Khan was in Singapore for the Zee Carnival on October 11 and 12 at the Suntec Convention Centre. It was easier to catch him at the Changi airport than it is to nail him down in India. Shah Rukh Khan, the unquestioned Baadshah of Bollywood, opened out a side of him not easily seen in film glossies. This quote-centred profile offers a glimpse of this mega successful star, producer, television anchor and businessman son of the late Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima whose greatest regret in life is that his parents are not around to share his success. Shoma A Chatterji offers us a glimpse...

Did you know that Shah Rukh Khan had finished reading Gregory David Roberts' Shantaram much before the book hit India shores and recommended it to some of his producer friends?I asked them if they would want to make a film based on the book but there was no response. Now, Hollywood has taken it," says the star whose home library has a collection of more than 5,000 books of which there are at least three he wants to turn into films. "The other two I have really enjoyed are Mark Haddon's murder mystery, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Yann Martel's fantasy adventure Life of Pi. Right now, my reading priorities are focussed on biopics about people who have led interesting lives."

Now look who is talking. He has led and is leading one of the most interesting lives himself on planet earth. His face is an icon that represents the Indian film industry in the world.

But he began small, with a bit of theatre in Delhi followed by not very significant roles in a few television serials like Fauji in 1988 followed by Circus. Few remember that he wooed his wife Gauri for eight years before they tied the knot 17 years ago.

"Gauri has known me for almost 25 years now and she understands me perfectly. I would not call her my pillar of strength simply because we have not known life separate from each other. What has sustained the relationship is the tremendous faith we have in each other. I have never looked inside her purse or even glanced into her wardrobe," says Khan who turns 43 next month with an acting roster that goes beyond 60 films seven being his own productions.

Gauri celebrates b'day in style

His roles have been a veritable rainbow of colours ranging from the psychopathic killer in Darr and Anjaam to the star incarnate in Om Shanti Om to the sickeningly melodramatic adopted son in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to the stern but determined Kabir Khan in Chak De! India.

"I am a lot like the no-nonsense hockey coach Kabir Khan in Chak De minus that stern stuff," he confides.

Though he admits that the Indian film industry has a lot to learn from Hollywood "in terms of organisation, technology and its distribution network, the stories are right here with us, in Bollywood. Our fantasies are attainable. Our fantasies are smaller. They are about having a house, perhaps a small car. We are not bothered about aliens," obviously referring to Hollywood blockbusters like Deep Impact and Independence Day. And he has every right to make this statement because most of his fantasies sell extremely well both in the national and in the international market.
